41. G/C Campbell Alexander HOY M.C. B.A. was born on 13 Feb 1893 in Newbiggin (Bedlington, Morpeth?).151,152 [[[Birth note: RTC always assumed born Newbiggen, but RAF record shows Bedlington, Morpeth][FBMD Mar q 1893 Morpeth 10b 424. (Morpeth included Bedlington, Morpeth and Newbiggin by the Sea)][1901 census in Newbiggin]]](CHC (G) said that EBMC (H) said her father was born in Campbell House in Newbiggin (which we visited in 2003 but did not gain access as she had a while earlier)) 1911 aged 18 as Campbell Alex He lived in Newbiggin, Campbell House about 1901.153 [Resided at note: with his widowed mother] He lived in Newbiggin by Sea, Campbell House about 1911.98 [[Resided at note: Morpeth R-d in 1911 with mother Margaret Anne][The signature at the bottom right corner was Campbell A Hoy and amended to Margaret. The Margaret name at top left is not the same writing but the Campbell looks the same. Did Campbell fill it out and Margaret amend or v v ??]] He was educated in 1913 in University of Durham, Armstrong College, Newcastle. [Education note: we do not know if 1 or 2 years and whether he studied maths then english or v. v. (in the 60's ? he asked for a degree certificate because although he did not finish his degree he was entitled to one: to gain extra payment as a private tutor!!)]
How do I know c 1913? I think he left to join the RFC at the start of WW1 He died on 9 Mar 1985.
